EMPTY HOUSES

An empty house is one that is not occupied by any planets at the time of birth. But this does not necessarily mean that, that particular area of life represented by the house is unimportant. Lack of planets indicates an area that does not require our attention until some point of life when some transiting planets visit it. Empty houses also relate to easy or latent karma, suggesting that the area of life represented is not a required subject in the present lifetime. Many empty houses in a birth chart indicates that the person needs to concentrate just on one or two specific areas in life.

Empty 1st House

In an empty First House, meaning without any planets, asteroids, or nodes, this could indicate that the focus of the individual isn’t really on what this House represents: egos, first impressions, appearances. It can also mean that they are somewhat lost or aimless when it comes to those particular aspects of their life. Perhaps they are confused about who they really are. In any event, when a House is empty, it can still be interpreted by examining the ruling sign of that particular House. The ruling sign of the First House is the Ascendant. Whatever the Ascendant is, the qualities associated with that sign will shed some light on the native’s approach to issues that are associated with the First House.

Empty 2nd House

Such a person would find it easy to set off on a trip leaving most of his belongings behind him.

Empty 3rd House

Communication and short-distance travel and dealing with relatives are undertaken enthusiastically and impulsively by the native.

Empty 4th House

The native of the birth chart is likely to be a good Hotelier.

Empty 5th House

To begin with, nothing actually “happens” when the 5th House is empty. Please keep in mind that the 5th House represents the theme of Leo (self expression, creativity, expressing the joy of life in your own special way, etc.)

Empty 6th House

Work and health concerns are treated with sensitivity and protectiveness. The subject would be happier working as a fashion model or hairstylist.

Partnerships and relationships are not vital but become important when treated with pride, loyalty and attachment when formed within group activities or long-lasting friendships.

You won't focus much on intimacy, sharing yourself with a partner, creating bonds with others, and personal transformation.

The native would love to travel for business. Foreign travel, religion and philosophy are given importance by the person of the chart.

Empty 10th House

The native loves to travel widely and enjoys leisure more than work.

Empty 11th House

The native more likely needs a few close friends rather than a fondness for group activities with lots of people.

Empty 12th House

An empty house usually means that you have not emphasized that part of your chart in this lifetime. The 12th house relates to hidden matters, the past, self-undoing, hospitals and prisons. It is also where you stuff the hurtful events of your past and karmic matters that you don't want to deal with. Those hidden matters will become manifest under planetary transits or when a progressed or solar arc directed planet is in aspect.

Look at where the houses begin in your birth chart and note the sign that it is in. Find the planet belonging to that sign and you will get an idea of your attitude to the topic of empty house.
